EMT
Our office is excited to partner with Horizon Health in Paris to offer an EMT training program to our local high school students! Interested high school juniors and seniors must contact their school guidance counselor to be accepted. Classes are held at Paris Cooperative HS.
Program Highlights:
Program is taught by a professional EMT with over 12 years of experience in the field
Designed for high school students - to meet their educational needs and schedule
Students will be able to sit for the EMT Basic exam, allowing you to work as an EMT (Must be 18 to test, not to take the class)
Students will be Healthcare Provider CPR trained
Great opportunity for students who may want to go into Emergency Services, Firefighting, Law Enforcemen,t or work with your local Volunteer Fire Department
Students will have classroom time and spend time "on-call" with the ambulance. Program will require 10 patient contacts as part of clinical time so total hours may be different for each student
To meet training requirements, some students may need to schedule evening or weekend hours on the ambulance
Students will be part of the caregiving team. They will experience live, emergency situations which can include trauma and intense medical situations. Students who do not faint at the sight of blood, who can easily think on their feet, and who work best in stressful situations would be a good fit for this program.
Program Details:
Class will meet primarily at Paris Cooperative High School, M-F 8:30-10am (a detailed course schedule will be provided in class)
Total Student costs are still being figured out but may include an EMT Training Program shirt, watch with seconds hand, notebook, background check, and other items as determined by instructor
This pilot year, our health care partners at Horizon Health and Carle Hospital are providing this course at no cost to the student!
